As to the really quick levelling in Factions, I'd say the game's layout is a major reason behind it - if you look at Prophecies, it's fairly linear in that you do a mission and end up at the next one or an outpost. In Factions, especially Cantha, you end up going all over the place, with multiple routes to each town and mission.

If you were still levelling up through Cantha, they'd have to adjust the difficulty of the mobs in each area (ie. their levels), giving you several routes to the same town, but with different difficulties. It'd look sort of like Beacon's Perch, with level 14 or so mobs outside one exit, and level 24 out the other...

Thumbs up

Ok first things first to reply to ChildeOfMalkav I didn't play factions (even though I bought the game) mearly beacuse I knew how many bugs it would have, Heck most games when they first come out do

now on to the disscusion im pleased with the results the main proberlems I see are

* no extra content

* PvE Quests are boring

* Very hard to get people for quests

Sorry if i've missed any more issues out but these are the ones that standed out and could be changed.

Ok extra content well there is all this faction and taking over land but as I know with my guild who had 2mil luxon faction we only took over a outpost, when I asked "so what can we do with it?" he replied "we get 10% off merchant"....hm ok that doesn't sound like a reward at all 10% off everything maybe, if anyone has taken over a city at least once please say what you could do...but this defintly needs to change like setting off fire works or something like that (can't think of any good suggestions atm). But apart from the faction side how about the missions you can now which you can do in a certain amount of time and you get extra rewards

PvE Quests are boring...ok I think the main proberlem is that they reward you with a ton of exp as I played tutorial and laughed at how much they gave (which I don't mind will say why later) but I think giving players just exp is not enough this means that if you didn't know that skills go up in price as you lvl up...this may put new players in dissary as they realise that from 70g a skill is now 1k they now have to farm with what little skills they have to keep going. My suggestion is to put more skill quests in the game leveling up is good but it makes skills very expensive.

Very hard to get people in quests? its like that in GW 1 it's mainly beacuse of titles this is why people don't do them...unless their skill quests or your very early in the game. I think a new title should be made that if you complete all the quests you get it.

Please give feedback and keep posting your opionions on Factions and why you liked or disliked it...and how Guild wars 1 was better.

P.S to all people saying this is moaning this is mearly letting Arena net know what is wrong with the game and coming up with an idea on what would make it better.

Factions is a blast, and well worth it. You get to the level 20 content fairly quickly, and the game really takes off from there. You're cheating yourself by waiting further.

My 34 cents, after adjusting for inflation.

And I guess you are also one of us "vocal minority" griping in forums.

BTW: I do spend a little of my time playing. Close to 3000 hours in the past 12 months.

What some see as a "slow grind" others see as enjoying the game. Some folks just want to get there while others enjoy the journey. Instant gratification vs. working towards a goal. Sounds a lot like the 21st century where most folks just want to "get there" and damn anyone who gets in their way.

I could go either way on this. I kind of enjoyed the slow grind of Prophecies, because when I was starting out I had no experience with this genre so it gave me plenty of time to get into it. It was also good because I was learning the skills a few at a time, not thrown all of them all at once. Easier to learn which does what that way, I think.

Factions is slightly different. I like how this game is geared more towards high-level content; that's what Prophecies was missing the most. In that regard this game is much better for people coming straight from Prophecies with the experience behind them. I've started new characters in both games and I enjoyed both starting areas. However I was glad that the level grind was much quicker in Factions, a second slow grind would have bored me personally.

On the other hand, if I was new and starting out and hadn't touched Prophecies at all I can imagine that Factions is very confusing and hard to get used to. Sure you have the full island to do stuff in but as soon as you leave you're thrust into immediate high-level content, no adjustments, and immediate access to most of the skills in the game. That was a mistake imo, I liked better having slower access so I could get used to the skills. But that's just me.

Overall I like both games for what they're worth. Factions in reality is *much* shorter- only 13 missions as opposed to 25, the map is much smaller than Tyria (everything is bunched together) and you can be finished with the main content in a flash if you have Prophecies under your belt already.

If you can slow down enough to care about the graphics they are top notch, especially with the DX9 update. The Jade Sea is beautifully rendered, the Echovald Forest in its stone splendor is quite the spectacle. The slums are a sight to behold even if they are in such bad shape. Eye candy in both of these games is incredible, and I'll never get tired of that.

I personally did not have a problem shelling out another $50 for Factions, I have gotten plenty out of it.

This is opinion, since the thread is asking for opinion I'll state mine (and await the usual flaming I get). The above mentioned is the pitiful side effect of trying to merge PvE and PvP playstyles with faction points. This should never have been attempted as it watered down the in game content for both PvPers and PvEers. Anet should have been creative in creating real content: Owning towns could have been like this: The NPC merchants at each ownable town could have had unique weapons or armor; or even things like DP removing items. Players enter these towns, purchase the items from the NPCs and at the end of the day a "tax" is paid to each owning alliance member (in control of the town) for the total purchases for the day. As it is, there is no point in owning any town other than the Elite Mission towns, and soon, with alternate access, that will be less needed as well.
Long term; when Chapter 3 comes out, who will really care about owning cavalon or hzh? But if there were an income source, then people might stick with them.

The quests are terrible. Laugable actually. However, go at it with some friends and enjoy the time and not the content... well, lack of content rather. I've had more fun running about with friends doing the dumbest quests (problem salving anyone?) then I did in many of the chapter 1 quests. Factions quests are so bad, they are fun in a funny way.
Challenge Missions are also terrible IMO. They feel like a slapped on, poor version of an 80's arcade game. Not only are they not enjoyable, but they are down right dull.
Competitive Missions have potential to be really fun, but the lack of being able to group pre-start and the infinite "timer restarts" kill them for me. I can't stand getting stuck with afkers or fools that "ping" the map 30 times in a 10 second span while they stand there trying to direct others into doing what they don't want to. I would prefer to go with someone I know and who's company I enjoy.

As I said above, I prefer the company of those I know, and not PuGs. I've had way to many bad PuGs. If no one is on I know, I henchie the quests. I was able to do all quests with my assassin using henchies, so they are doable. Missions, on the other hand are best done with people.

With all the above said, here's my over all take on Factions:

It's not a stand alone game in the traditional since, but GW is not our traditional online game either. I see Factions and it's small content a distraction for bored Tyrian born characters. Factions is great fun when taking in small bites at a time. Log in, play for a couple of hours and walk away. Proph could hold ones attention for much longer but did feel dull after a while. Merging the faster feel of Factions with Proph and we get a semi balance.

For improving Factions:
Still waiting on Auction house so those _____ trade spammers will have somewhere to go.
Get rid of the faction point ladder or at least add something to owning a city/outpost.
Allow pre-grouping in Competitive missions.
Increase rewards for repeatable faction quests (will get rid of the most boring quests in the game and take away some of the "gotta grind" feel - please don't refer AvA, I hate GW's entire PvP game but love the PvE side).

Post note: While this post sounds negative, it is what is requested. Things I feel need improvements. There are far fewer things that need improvements in Factions than there are things that are good and fun. So I would say if you bought it, play it. You are missing out on some fun, though it's not long, it will entertain you. Personal favorite; the "Oni Sway". Seeing the Onis run at you with their "sway" and see them wipe out the healer henchies. Always great for a laugh.
